The human survival is based on friendship. From the highest authority to those less fortunate living on the streets, all of them have friendships. From personal experience I have come to believe that friends are family. As an out-of-state student I have learned to adapt to not having my family there for me at all times. Instead, I have learned to lean on friends in times of need and when my family is to far away. However, I neveranticipated needing my friends as much as I did this past winter. In January 2011, while running across the street to get to class I re-tore my ACL for the third time. Now in the past I would have called my Mom to pick me up, ask my Dad to call the doctor to set up the appointment, and make my brother bring me ice pack after ice pack for my knee; however, being over a 1,000 miles away none of that was possible. I was scared. Both times I had torn my ACL before were horrible. Endless doctor appointments, numerous x-rays and MRI’s, 5 hour long surgery, and 3 weeks on bed rest- how was I suppose to do this all without my family? In the days that followed I was overwhelmed by the love, care, and support I had received from my friends. Within 24 hours of the injury I had a handful of doctor referrals from my friend Jessica. Two days later my friend Liz was up at 6 A.M. scarping the ice off of her car so that we could get to my doctors appointment on time. One week later my friend Brie held my hand as a nearly hyperventilated while receiving a jell shot for my MRI. Finally, two weeks after the day of injury my friend Patti dressed head to toe in scrubs, and stood in the operating room holding my hand as I drifted into anesthesia, assuring me that everything would be fine and she would literally be by my side through it all. Looking back, I can honestly say I would not have survived it all without the love and support of my friends.People say that friends are the family we choose for ourselves, I couldn’t agree more and I could not be happier with the family I have. I believe that friends are family. Production Notes
I recorded and edited it in garage band and uploaded it. To start off, the audio portion of this project was difficult because it is challenging to read the whole paper in the same tone, at the same rate to achieve fluidity. However, after 7 takes I was able to achieve a voice over that I was satisfied with. Secondly, for my font I chose to stay with the Times New Roman for a simplistic look that would not take away from my voice. Going along with font choice, I chose the color red to draw attention to lines, which hold a significant meaning to the paper. Finally, I chose a picture with a cast around a leg because I could not find one I liked with it wrapped around the knee. I altered the colors of the picture to red to go along with the font, and also to add a dramatic effect since it is a dramatic situation.
This I believe…
